November 201804 November 2018 Well the harvest has started off and we are quite busy onsite as the trucks come in to unload and we stack the Barley out in the bulkhead, and in the large "G" Type Shed. Joanne also started work this week which was just as well because the ever increasing arrivals meant walking back and forth between the grid, the stack and the G Type was becoming a bit of a marathon. Even with Joanne now manning the grid the pedometer in my phone showed over 25,000 steps and 17.6 km's of walking for the day. The week's end saw around 5,000 tonnes in the bin and the first tarp for the 2018-9 season on the bulkhead.
The effort for the first week. With today being a day off it was the perfect chance to catch up on things, and to get the drone up for a look. Hopefully we there will be a chance for some drone shots and video of harvesting next week just before sunset. 18 November 2018 A few weeks on and we have added and subtracted from the stack as well as adding more and more malt barley in the G Type. Adding more while also outloading to make sure we have room for the rest of the crop.
The stack grows under threatening skies. Wheat has also started to come in and the three of us on the ground are spread between four grids now which makes for a busy day, and not helped by the rather warm weather we have had as well. 25 November 2018 Another week of the harvest and we are now into wheat. The Barley is still coming in but wheat has taken over as you can see by the two stacks that have formed in the foreground of this shot.
My Sunday morning drone flight revealed the results of our work this week. The weather has been kind to us, and the farmers this week and after writing and posting this there are the crops for the local sporting clubs coming in so not only will the clubs benefit, there is some overtime to benefit us as well.
Something different to photograph on this morning's flight.
Mark Twain once said "...years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do that by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - and so we will. |
